For the second year running, we supported the company in communicating its ESG commitments, through an evolving reporting process shaped by the VSME standard, alignment with the Group’s ESRS reporting requirements and stakeholder engagement.
Accessible energy, the sustainable transition, energy efficiency and communities. These are just some of the key themes explored in E.ON Italia’s 2025 Sustainability Report, developed with Amapola’s support for the second consecutive year.
The report looks back at the progress made by the company throughout 2025 and reaffirms a clear commitment: to report transparently on priorities, actions and responsibilities in an energy sector that is becoming increasingly central to the lives of households, businesses, local areas and communities.
Our work with E.ON Italia
E.ON Italia is part of the E.ON Group, one of Europe’s leading energy companies, active in the development of energy networks, services and solutions for households, businesses and cities. For us, working once again on the company’s Sustainability Report meant building on the journey already underway while supporting its continued evolution.
We worked alongside the sustainability team throughout the main stages of the project: from defining the methodological approach to collecting and structuring data; from updating the report index and drafting the content to supporting the review and validation process.
It was a step-by-step process, developed in close collaboration with the company, with the aim of making the Sustainability Report more than a reporting document: a clear, accessible and useful tool for communicating decisions, achievements and future direction.
Evolving sustainability reporting: from GRI to VSME, with stakeholders having their say
The 2025 Sustainability Report marks a further step in the evolution of E.ON Italia’s reporting journey. Following the 2024 edition, prepared in accordance with the GRI Standards, this year the company voluntarily adopted the VSME Standard – the Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs developed by EFRAG – after the changes introduced by the Omnibus package placed it outside the scope of the CSRD.
This approach allows E.ON Italia to maintain a structured and consistent sustainability reporting framework while ensuring effective alignment with the data requirements of the wider Group, which remains subject to the CSRD and reports in accordance with the ESRS.
Compared with the previous year, the process therefore moved forward on two fronts: maintaining continuity in the collection and communication of ESG performance, while also adapting the methodology to respond to a changing regulatory landscape.
Stakeholder engagement also played an important role in this evolution. The project included four interviews with expert stakeholders – Key Opinion Leaders selected by the company. We supported E.ON Italia from an editorial perspective and conducted the interview with CEO Luca Conti.
These conversations provided an opportunity to explore several issues that are central both to E.ON Italia and to the wider energy sector: the triple transition, customer affordability, innovation and digitalisation.
This is where sustainability reporting reveals its full potential: when it brings together methodology and listening, data and storytelling, strategy and relationships. Because reporting on sustainability is also about building awareness, creating opportunities for dialogue and making it easier to understand the role an organisation can play in the transformations already underway.
