“I get involved”, a stakeholder engagement and facilitation process for CEM Ambiente

Involving employees, listening to their point of view and ideas to cultivate a collaborative and positive work environment, support sense of belonging and enhance everyone’s role in the organization. This is the heart of “I get involved“, the stakeholder engagement project carried out by Amapola for Cem Ambiente, the public corporation that manages the integrated waste cycle for 69 member municipalities located in the provinces of Milan, Monza and Brianza and Lodi.

The Amapola project

Cem people were involved in three participatory work days, each marked by multiple meeting moments during which employees confronted each other with the objective of bringing out ideas and suggestions regarding today’s problems and future growth prospects of the company. The meetings were conducted and managed by Amapola expert facilitators. The “I get involved” process involved about thirty administrative employees through the LEGO SERIOUS PLAY method, the reflection, communication and problem-solving technique that uses the famous bricks as a representative tool to elaborate and solve complex problems in a collaborative environment. Through this technique, working groups questioned themselves about Cem’s present and future, proposing solutions to criticalities and growth and development objectives. In addition to the LEGO SERIOUS PLAY method, used in the initial phase for stimulus emergence, CEM employees were also able to experiment with another facilitation technique: the Gameplan. The Gameplan is a tool that helps groups structure operational strategies to achieve defined objectives, giving vision of work phases, criticalities, necessary resources and tools related to the work project. Reasoning on these aspects allowed “bringing to ground” suggestions emerged from previous confrontation, giving concreteness and solidity to Cem employees’ proposals. The “I get involved” process concluded with a final feedback moment that also involved company leadership.
