Strengthen dialogue with the local community and highlight the technological innovation and environmental sustainability of the Spinetta Marengo – Alessandria plant with an event open to the community.
In 2022, the Solvay plant in Spinetta Marengo relaunched Open Factories. The initiative stems from the desire to consolidate the bond with the territory and local community by letting adults and children experience the reality of the factory, allowing citizens to ‘see firsthand’ how work is done in a chemical plant and discovering one of the most important industrial sites in the Province of Alessandria.
The 2022 edition of Open Factories was held in an important year for the plant, which celebrated the twentieth anniversary of Solvay management and inaugurated new strategic facilities. There were over 1,000 visitors who crossed the gates of the industrial site for a day of celebration, animated by guided visits to the plants and sharing with all citizens the results achieved and ongoing projects.
The day, entitled Welcome to 2030, the future is already here, opened with the talk “Today’s and tomorrow’s chemistry between ecological transition and new challenges” which saw the participation of authorities, press and representatives of the local community. At the closing of the institutional event, visitors were able to get to know up close the concrete projects that testify to Solvay’s continuous commitment on the environmental and innovation front through the plant visit, a real journey into today’s and tomorrow’s chemistry.
The tour, guided by 100 volunteers among the plant employees, was structured in three stages:
the area dedicated to innovation, destined for visiting one of the plant’s main flagship projects, the PFR plant, for the production of a perfluorinated rubber used in multiple sectors. Besides the PFR, visitors were able to learn about a new development frontier through a video, the Aquivion� prototype plant, for the production of membranes and other materials aimed at the flourishing hydrogen market.

The special area for environmental protection, with a visit to the new reverse osmosis plant for treating process wastewater and the adjacent construction site where a new plant for treatment with activated carbons for further filtration of industrial cooling water is under construction.

The EXPO ARENA, a large green area dedicated to laboratories, entertainment for adults, youth and children and many other small and large discoveries about Solvay product applications and the research that makes them possible.
The Amapola project
Amapola handled the direction and event communication. The agency was present in all coordination and organization phases: from the initial conception of the day’s format, to designing the institutional roundtable, from producing setups and communication materials to managing employee and volunteer working groups.
Furthermore, Amapola handled Solvay’s multimedia program for Open Factories 2022. Regarding this latter point, the agency produced multiple contents: two videos, dedicated to environmental protection and innovation, which were broadcast during the guided visit; the event video-reportage that tells the story of the day.
