THE PROJECT FOR ARRIVA ITALIA
In 2025, Arriva Italia published the third edition of its Sustainability Report, confirming a structured, long-term approach to ESG reporting. The project was developed with the support of Amapola, which has been working alongside the company since its first steps into sustainability reporting. A leader in local public transport in several provinces in Northern Italy and in Rome, Arriva Italia carried almost 50 million passengers in 2024.
The 2024 edition of the Report stands out for the voluntary adoption of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), which are not yet mandatory for the company. This choice reflects a strategic vision and the willingness to anticipate future regulatory changes, structuring the document according to double materiality criteria.
Amapola’s work
Amapola supported Arriva Italia with an integrated, hands-on approach, ensuring continuity, consistency and quality throughout the entire reporting process.
Our work covered all stages of the process:
• updating the materiality analysis, with a strong focus on financial aspects;
• full management of data collection and content drafting, also through the technology platform provided by our partner RE2N;
• development of the graphic concept and document layout;
• support during the external assurance process, including data review and interactions with the assurance provider;
• translation of the full Report into English;
• production of a short-form version of the Report in Italian and English;
• publication of six local reports dedicated to the company’s main operating areas.
These summary tools and local breakdowns are a key lever in the project: documents designed to make the content accessible even to non-expert audiences, while highlighting the relationship between the company and the communities in which it operates.
“At Arriva Italia, with the support of Amapola, we launched our ESG reporting journey in 2023, publishing our first Sustainability Report. In the following years this collaboration has grown even stronger and, again in 2025, we worked together on the drafting of the 2024 Sustainability Report. In addition to the support in once again obtaining external assurance on the Report, Amapola’s contribution in guiding Arriva Italia in adopting the new European ESRS standards, used for the first time ahead of regulatory requirements, was particularly valuable. This shared journey demonstrates our ongoing commitment to strengthening data quality, the robustness of the reporting process and transparency towards our stakeholders.”
