THE FOOD TRANSITION FOR EVERYONE
In 2023 Carrefour Italia published its second Sustainability Report. The document came at an important time for the entire Group: the transition to the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan with an even closer focus on sustainability issues. For the second year, Amapola assisted the company on the drafting of the report, handling the graphics and visual design and the summary.
Carrefour Italia’s commitment in the 2022 Sustainability Report
The Carrefour Group runs around 1,500 outlets in 19 Italian regions, employs more than 12,000 people and has close ties with the communities and areas where it operates. It views sustainability as a strategic growth driver and is committed to promoting cultural change to achieve a positive impact. This was the thinking behind its decision to become a Benefit Company and translate its social and environmental commitment into action. The move took place in July 2023.
The 2022 Sustainability Report details the company’s activities on environmental, social and economic issues. Reducing packaging and emissions, focusing on biodiversity, raising consumer awareness, protecting customers’ purchasing power, promoting accessible spending for everyone, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace: Carrefour Italia is working on a variety of fronts, as part of a broader group-wide strategy. Its central premise is that it is a strategic player in the supply chain, a hub for promoting sustainability principles, from the producer to the end consumer.
The Amapola project
The 2022 Sustainability Report, a document fully aligned with the company’s objectives, illustrates Carrefour Italia’s activities in a simple, transparent product designed to reach all its stakeholders. Coordinated by Amapola, which also designed the graphics, in collaboration with SCS for the texts, the Report uses a linear narration and warm visuals and graphics, enhanced by illustrated diagrams and the faces of Carrefour people. Tables and highlight pages alternate and different reading levels make it easy to find information and data. The close attention to accessibility issues continues in the Summary of the Sustainability Report, an editorial product designed to extend readership.
Drafted with reference to the latest version of the GRI standards, the Report links the description of projects and data with the Group’s sustainability objectives, anchoring the activities of Carrefour Italia to a broader, more layered strategic framework. Similarly, the company’s activities are linked with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, giving solidity to Carrefour’s projects and setting operations in an international context.
The Report also pays close attention to the materiality analysis and stakeholder engagement. The materiality analysis, which identifies the key topics for the company starting from a discussion with its stakeholders, references the most recent reporting guidelines and focuses on the impacts of its operations.
