Protecting the most precious resource GAIA Spa’s Sustainability Report

GAIA Spa manages the integrated water service in the territory of the Tuscany Region, extending from the border with Liguria and Emilia-Romagna to that with the Lucca plain and Alto Pistoiese. The served area includes 45 municipalities with 433 thousand inhabitants and about 252,000 users. Founded in 2005 as an in-house company, the utility has strengthened over time its characteristics of “public management” to ensure quality, safe and economical service, respecting environmental protection. This responsible and territory-conscious management has had as its natural outlet, and starting point, the first Sustainability Report created in 2021 to report environmental, economic and social performance achieved in 2020, together with the creation of an internal body dedicated to CSR. Amapola supported the company in drafting and enhancing the second Sustainability Report, referring to projects and results from 2021, with the objective of transforming the document into a strategic communication tool. Additionally, we supported the utility on materiality themes through a start-up workshop. In 2023 the collaboration continued on GAIA’s 2022 Sustainability Report, particularly in relation to the publication’s graphic-visual project.

The Amapola project for GAIA’s Sustainability Report

GAIA’s 2021 Report is a voluntary report that was subjected to assurance. Amapola supported the company in narrative editing of texts and internal materiality dynamics through interviews and a start-up workshop. We accompanied the utility in defining the storytelling and tone of voice of the report, starting from the choice of title, privileging transparent, linear and at the same time exhaustive narration. To make the report more accessible and usable, the graphic project, handled by KREAS, was enriched with infographics, QR codes and reading facilitation elements, along with illustrations and visual elements that refer to the centrality of water resource protection. Amapola collaborated closely with the graphics agency to create a document that responded to the utility’s identity needs and was accessible and communicative towards company stakeholders. Finally, Amapola also handled the pocket version of the report, a communication enhancement tool that favors understanding, accessibility and dissemination to a broad audience.

Document enhancement

To favor the dissemination of GAIA’s sustainability report content, Amapola, together with Kreas, also produced an infographic that tells the water company’s commitments within the objectives set by the 2030 Agenda. This material was designed both to be shared digitally and to be printed and mailed with paper bills. To complete the dissemination tools, 5 Social Cards were also produced to share on digital properties to strengthen dialogue with stakeholders. The 2021 Integrated Report is available on GAIA’s website: here.
