Benefits
The story of how Amapola became a benefit corporation
We took the big leap in November 2021.
Sustainability is our daily bread – we had been telling ourselves for a while – through our work we guide companies and organizations toward change, and moreover, commitment to the common good unites us personally as well. Why not put it in writing?
We wanted to do it right, in a way that reflected who we are and our approach to life in general, but especially to our professional life. So, every person at Amapola was involved in defining our common benefit purposes (the objectives that every benefit corporation includes in its articles of incorporation). The result? Eleven – later reduced to five – common benefit purposes, which we included in our articles of incorporation.
The Impact Board, a "political" choice
Every benefit corporation has an impact manager. We chose to establish an entire Board. According to our articles of incorporation, Amapola's Impact Board is composed "of 3 to 7 members and is renewed totally or partially every three years" and manages benefit activities. It can include employees, collaborators, and even external stakeholders. Fundamental requirement: not having reached 36 years of age.
Younger generations can and must provide direction, especially when their future is at stake, and they have the skills to do so. And too often, although we say "the future belongs to young people," decisions remain in the hands of generations that – looking closely – have failed in terms of social innovation and environmental protection.
Therefore, by statute, it's the youngest people at our company who decide how to manage our commitment to the common good. And it's always they who handle our annual reporting.
Together for the common benefit
Here are the commitments Amapola has made as a benefit corporation, directly from our corporate purpose.
