Arriva Italia publishes its first sustainability report and strengthens stakeholder engagement through territorial reports
A leading transport provider, the company consolidates its ESG commitment by measuring and divulging its impacts, with the support of Amapola.
The journey towards new mobility. Arriva Italia has consolidated its environmental and social commitment with the publication of its first Sustainability Report. The document is the result of a reporting process that began in 2023 with the consultancy of Amapola. Arriva Italia decided to act in advance of the legal requirement set by the European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, which will expand the range of entities required by law to report the environmental, social and environmental impacts of their operations.
Arriva Italia profile
Arriva Italia runs the local public transport service in the Aosta Valley and in the provinces of Turin, Brescia, Bergamo, Lecco and Cremona, as well as a transport service for disabled students and students with reduced mobility in Rome. It also operates commercial services, airport links, vehicle rental and tourism services, and mobility services for major events.
34 million passengers, 1,467 employees, 1,433 vehicles and revenues totalling 143 million euro. These are some of Arriva Italia’s key figures for 2022. The company is at the forefront in promoting sustainability mobility, which it considers an urgent challenge from both the environmental and the social viewpoints. Sustainable public transport is essential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality in cities, so generating a positive social impact for the community. At Group level, Arriva is researching new zero-emission solutions through the Zero Emission Institute, and has brought in policies to modernise its fleet, introduce alternative fuels and strengthen circular economy processes.
On the social front, the company demonstrates its attention to the needs of its people and all its external stakeholders through wellness projects for employees, clear governance on Diversity & Inclusion and efficient modern assistance to guarantee the best service for 34 million passengers.
«This Report is intended as a testimonial of the responsibility we feel and put into practice every day, for our people, first of all, and for our passengers as well as for all the other stakeholders with whom we interact on a daily basis,» says Angelo Costa, Arriva Italia CEO.
Amapola consultancy
«The company chose a progressive approach, starting from a solid base thanks to the use of internationally recognised standards (performance was measured with the GRI Standards) and an in-depth materiality analysis involving its main stakeholders,» says Giulia Devani, head of the Reporting Area at Amapola. «Method, strategy and a focus on content accessibility formed the backbone of this project.»
To make dialogue with strategic interlocutors even more direct and immediate and strengthen relationships, Arriva Italia decided to maximise its sustainability facts and figures with a series of territorial reports, one for each geographical area in which it operates. These versions anchor Arriva Italia operations to the local dimension, putting projects and results into context. Besides providing content packed with information and data, the reports are presented with a common graphical framework organised in a variety of formats, which enhances the text graphically and facilitates reading, for a full understanding by all recipients.
