THE IMPORTANCE OF REPORTING FOR CARREFOUR ITALIA
With operations in over 40 countries, 14,348 stores, and 335,000 employees, Carrefour has made significant sustainability strides, including in Italy, where it operates 1,490 stores and employs over 11,000 people (as of 2023). Carrefour was the first major retail chain in Italy to become a Benefit Corporation, integrating sustainability into its business model while committing to transparency, circularity, inclusion, and the development of sustainable products.
In 2024, Carrefour Italia published not only its Sustainability Report but also its first Impact Report as a Benefit Corporation. This legally required document highlights the company’s focus on its social and environmental impact. Carrefour’s key public benefit goals include:
- A sustainable transformation of the food system,
- Creating economic value for stakeholders,
- Fostering a safe and inclusive workplace,
- Reducing environmental impact.
The Amapola project
Amapola played a key role in this landmark project, partnering with SCS Consulting to support Carrefour in developing both the 2023 Sustainability Report and the first Impact Report. Our work included:
- Storytelling and content editing,
- Selection and organization of visual materials,
- Graphic design and layout development.
We focused on a fluid and transparent narrative that reflects Carrefour’s values of trust and engagement, making sustainability topics clear and accessible to a broad audience. The graphic design maintains continuity with previous editions while placing greater emphasis on people, reinforcing the human element at the core of Carrefour’s sustainability efforts. Infographics were used to enhance readability and make key data easily digestible.
Special attention was given to a condensed version of the Sustainability Report, providing a more streamlined format that increases accessibility for a wider range of stakeholders. Additionally, Amapola produced a dynamic and engaging video to share Carrefour’s key achievements across social media, broadening the report’s reach.
Our approach successfully combined detailed information with intuitive visual elements, enabling Carrefour to present a clear, transparent, and engaging sustainability report that effectively communicates the company’s commitment to sustainability.
