Carrefour Italia doubles down: Sustainability Report and first Impact Report published

A reporting project that blends storytelling, design, and transparency to showcase the company’s commitment to stakeholder engagement and its journey towards sustainability.
GO TO THE PROJECT
In 2024, Carrefour Italia once again chose Amapola to support the creation of its Sustainability Report and its very first Impact Report as a Benefit Corporation. This dual-reporting project highlights the company’s achievements through clear and accessible storytelling, engaging all stakeholders in its sustainability journey.
Carrefour’s commitment to a new business model
Operating in over 40 countries with 14,348 stores and 335,000 employees, Carrefour has achieved significant sustainability milestones, including in Italy, where it operates 1,490 stores and employs over 11,000 people (as of 2023).
The 2023 Sustainability Report presents key data, such as:
- 8,594 farmers and livestock breeders involved in Carrefour’s quality supply chain,
- 496 tons of packaging saved since 2017,
- 43% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to 2019.
Carrefour’s 2026 Strategic Plan guides its initiatives, with a strong focus on certified sustainable products, a responsible distribution model that promotes circularity, and the full implementation of inclusion principles across its global organization.
For this project, Amapola, in partnership with SCS, handled storytelling, content editing, creative graphic design, and layout development. We ensured stylistic continuity with previous editions while reinforcing the central role of people, highlighting the human element as a key focus.
The first Impact Report
As a Benefit Corporation, Carrefour Italia is required by law to publish an Impact Report, marking a major milestone for the company. This document not only strengthens Carrefour’s position as a responsible and forward-thinking company but also outlines its four key public benefit goals:
- Sustainable transformation of the food system across the entire value chain, offering high-quality products and raising consumer awareness.
- A fair, safe, and dynamic workplace that fosters professional growth and inclusion for all employees.
- Creating economic value for stakeholders, protecting supplier rights, and supporting franchisees.
- Reducing environmental impact through efficient resource management, cutting emissions, and minimizing waste.
Reporting as a tool for stakeholder engagement
Both reports adopt a fluid, clear, and transparent narrative, designed to foster trust and engagement. The visual and photographic elements place Carrefour’s people at the center, reinforcing their role in the company’s sustainability efforts. A balanced mix of text, tables, and infographics enhances accessibility for a wide audience.
To broaden the report’s reach, the Sustainability Report is also available in a concise and comprehensive summary version, making it easier for diverse stakeholders to access key information. Additionally, Amapola produced a dynamic and engaging video to communicate the company’s main achievements on social media, further expanding the report’s visibility.
These two communication tools demonstrate Carrefour’s ongoing commitment to transparency and dialogue, ensuring that sustainability remains a core part of its business strategy.
